• Static Site Workflow

Jordan Merrick created a static site generator. No big deal, right? Did I mention that he created it using Workflow for iOS?

Using text files as the basis for its content, generate an entire website containing a blog and pages, complete with an RSS feed, that you can upload to your web host.

    So neat.

  • Casper

My mattress is eight years old. Apparently that's about the time mattresses turn from comfortable havens to spike-filled death rectangles. So instead of going to a giant mattress showroom and trying out mattress after mattress, I caved and bought a king sized Casper.1

My grandparents would shake their heads if I told them I bought a mattress without ever trying it out. But with the 100 day trial, I don't really see much of a risk other than time.

I'm going to make short notes on how I feel every morning, so I can decide if this is the right mattress. I'll be updating this post every time I make my notes. You can also follow on Twitter, with the hashtag #casper100.

Day 001 The Casper arrived while I was at work. My wife and son got to unbox it, which is apparently some sort of event.

It feels comfortable to lay on. Very different from my old mattress, though. You sink in a bit - like memory foam - but them you stop. You don't melt into the mattress like it was quicksand.

  • iOS Trackpad Support

I would love for Apple to add trackpad / mouse support1 to iOS, specifically the iPad version.

Using a trackpad would not make iOS better. In fact, it would be terrible. I don't want trackpad support for using iOS at all. I do want trackpad support when I'm using Screens to control my Mac.

Eventually, my aging iMac will need to be replaced. With iOS trackpad support, I could probably make my next Mac a headless Mac Mini that lives on a shelf somewhere. Whenever I need OS X for a specific task, I could find a trackpad, connect with Screens, and use OS X pretty much like normal. And when I'm done, I could stow the trackpad and get back to the good life on iOS.

    Next. Level.

    1. I think the chance of this is pretty close to zero.

  • All things end

Good things. Bad things. Mediocre things. All things end. 2015 is no different, just like 2014 before it.

    2015

I posted 54 things to this site. I don't have counts from previous years, but I would guess that's the lowest number to date. There just isn't enough time to go around anymore.

    2016

Tomorrow begins a new year. It's no different than today, except we write a different number when writing the date. Since we're silly humans, that means a lot. So here's to a great 2016.

  • GTD

Jack Baty on the GTD Merry-Go-Round

I love my notebook, but it’s hard to capture everything. Writing by hand is work, so I don’t always bother. I then promptly start forgetting things. Or I accidentally leave the notebook at home. And copying unfinished tasks forward manually is such a pain. That’s what computers are for, right? Time to go all in, and I need something serious, so I install OmniFocus and get to work.

    Yep.

  • The Last Season

Yesterday, Kobe Bryant announced what we all knew, but didn't want to admit. This season will be his last.

This season is all I have left to give.
My heart can take the pounding
My mind can handle the grind
But my body knows it’s time to say goodbye.

I'll have to make time to catch a few more Lakers games, just for the occasional flash of brilliance that reminds you of the player Kobe once was. I don't think we'll ever see another player quite like Kobe, and that's a damn shame.

    Dave Pell on notifications

Sure, it's hyperbole. But not by much.

  • TTAC

Do you like cars? Do you read TTAC? You should.

At this press launch, several topics came up. For instance: why did they give the styling job to this angry sword-man? Why was he so angry? What sort of sword did he have? And when are they going to put out a new plate of shrimp for us to eat?
