• Searching

Sometimes I get annoyed with myself for not having search built in to this site yet.

Then I remember that this site is just a collection of text files, and those sure are easy to search. Then I get back to being lazy and not adding search to the site.

  • 2016 NBA Finals

    Zach Lowe on LeBron James:

Win or lose, he is the MVP of these Finals. He has emphatically reasserted himself as the world's greatest all-around player -- an unprecedented combination of speed, strength and brains capable of dictating outcomes on both sides of the floor. He just completed the best back-to-back performance of his career.

No matter what happens tonight, the only choice for the 2016 NBA Finals MVP is LeBron James. The only choice.

This was just as true in 2015 when he was robbed of an award when he was the clear choice.

  • James Gowans on running his own site the right way:

Rolling my own site gave me the opportunity to learn a very small amount of CSS, HTML and Node.js. Building it from the ground up provided me with intimate knowledge of how all of these things work together. If something breaks, it's almost certainly because of something I did wrong. I can troubleshoot almost any issue. I'm in control of everything except domain and VPS hosting, and either of those can be changed to any other provider with minimal effort or downtime. I know this site and how it works better than anyone else.

I agree with every word. I love static sites for a lot of reasons. They're fast, simple, and almost completely in my control. Static doesn't mean scary any more. It's a little more trouble to set up than WordPress1 but you end up with a much better site.

    1. Really, not much more trouble.

  • Pythonista 3

Ole Zorn released the all-new Pythonista 3 this morning. This app replaces Pythonista, and supports both Python 2.7 and 3.5. It includes a "2 to 3" tool to automagically update your scripts. All my Scripts are written for Python 2.7, so this seems right up my alley. I'm also a little paranoid about handing over my code to robots to fix.

Regular price for Pythonista 3 is $10, but it's on sale for $5 right now. If you do any nerdy stuff on your iPhone or iPad, you really should buy Pythonista 3. This site wouldn't exist without Pythonista, and I barely even scratch the surface of the app's capabilities.

  • I like how my task manager, Drafts inbox, email inbox, and text file folder all say the same thing.

    Haha fuck you.

  • Typing up a Markdown formatting document on my iPad and then printing it to my office computer still feels like magic. Maybe I have low expectations.

    No; it's magic.

  • Hood Hippie

One of my favorite Lakers of all time, Metta World Peace never fails to entertain.

Do you think they'll let me coach in a t-shirt?

  • Ten minutes after the rain stops is exactly when I want to receive the alert that rain is about to start.

    Thanks, Dark Sky.

  • Paul George

Silver Screen and Roll on the Lakers and Paul George:

Nabbing a premium player like Paul George would make an immediate impact, but whether the Pacers would have any interest in moving their franchise cornerstone who's under contract through 2019 (player option) is questionable. That's where the "other" pieces bit comes in, and the Lakers do have attractive options to serve on a platter. Julius Randle, D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson could all be desirable targets for Indiana to package with a top pick and Myles Turner, but how far would either side be willing to go?

Paul George is a great player, and I was really happy to see him come back from that awful leg injury. But the idea of the Lakers trading possibly a top 2 pick and last year's number 2 pick? There are maybe three players in the league that you do that for. None of them are named Paul George.
