• Microposts

I recently added support for microposts on my site. They'll appear on the main page along with full articles – they just don't have titles.

Manton Reece has written some great stuff about microblogging. Probably better than anything I'll write about it. You should read it.

I've been on a Twitter sabbatical for a couple weeks1. I am enjoying running at about 170% capacity instead of 180%. It's nice. Occasionally I still have the urge to share a snippet of text or a link. Normally I would turn to Twitter.

Now, I just add a micropost to my own site. I don't have to think up a witty title. I just write a sentence or two, tap the action in Drafts that fires off a Pythonista script, and the new post appears on my site.

Even when2 I invevitibly turn Twitter back on, I think I'll keep doing this. I like owning my words, even if I'm not so delusional to think they matter.

    1. Maybe I'll be done in two more days. Or two more weeks. Or a month. I have no idea.

    2. if? Nah, when.

  • This is my new favorite website. Paste in a YouTube link, and it lets you use Picture-in-picture on your iPad.

  • Pet peeve of the day:

When someone replies to my email, but deletes the text of what I sent. It's a reply to nothing.

I get a couple hundred emails per day, and send maybe a hundred. I don't remember what I send. I need context.

I'm not sure why people do this.

  • I added a little system to automatically generate the correct slug & file name for the new microposts here. No more manually naming them. This is my final test.

  • Overcast was already pretty efficient, but the EQ-bars visualizer was a significant battery drain (and was so distracting that a very large portion of users had disabled it), so I’ve replaced the visualizer with a smaller, simpler, far more efficient one inside the Pause button

Little stuff like this is why I use Overcast.

  • The upside of having my task management system not on my work computer is that I can include as much profanity as I need.

  • Ello

I got an email from Ello today.

    Ello

It's cute that Ello still exists and thinks I want email.

  • Voicemail on my work phone today:

Hey Rob, this is Toby. Please return my call at 555-555-5555

    1. I don't know who you are.
    2. I don't know why you want me to call you.
    3. What do I get out of it?
    4. Stop doing this.

  • My wife brought home some snow crabs for dinner today. They weren't Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs, but damnit if they weren't delicious.

  • I replaced the half-peeled Strip on my phone. The other Strip is fine. This little experiment isn't going well.
