If you live in Kansas City, you can now get gigabit home Internet from AT&T for $70 per month — a steal. Well, if you don't mind a little catch:

AT&T says it tracks “the webpages you visit, the time you spend on each, the links or ads you see and follow, and the search terms you enter… AT&T Internet Preferences works independently of your browser’s privacy settings regarding cookies, do-not-track, and private browsing. If you opt-in to AT&T Internet Preferences, AT&T will still be able to collect and use your Web browsing information independent of those settings.”

If you find that offensive in every way, you can always opt out for an additional $29 per month.

Since I'm the paranoid type, I am skeptical that this actually opts you out. When a company has a system set up to track and record your every movement online, and that system is the default for their service... it seems like it could be easy for AT&T to "forget" to turn it off, even if you pay.

Me? I would rather have slow internet service that isn't creepy.
